I was using a web host who lost my entire website.(long story, won’t explain.) I want to go with someone locally, but according to the TOS from this first host, IP addresses that they registered are their property and I can’t transfer it. I thought as soon as I registered the domain name, it became mine until it expired. How do I go about transfering my domain name so I can begin building my website again?
My domain expired two years ago, and they parked a dummy search engine (basically one of those “ad’s disguised as content” portals, that steal the click-thru revenue from the rightful recipients). Anyway, the content they put up there has nothing to do with the domain name, and they somehow feel justified in charging a person who is on SSI $10,000 to renew the name…. (atom12.com was the domain, if you are curious). Not only that, they stole screenshots and text (word for word) off my site from when it was active, and are using it as an example of “what they can do for you” ( http://www.aboutus.org/atom12.com ). It is the shadiest thing thats happened to me for a while. Trying to deal with such a huge, overbearing company has been stressful and has gotten me no-where. I guess I’ll check out the BBB, ICANN, ICPEN, or WIPO organizations to see if they can help…. but I feel powerless (not to mention stepped on)
In response to ‘thebonehead’: No, not quite a coma – but 3 surgeries and about 60% of my gut… valid enough? I was asking if anyone else had an issue, I was not asking for your advice. Thanks though.
No long ago i did a search to be sure that the web-site address i wanted to launch did not already exist. Convinced that it wasn’t existing, I went ahead to commission a web-site designer to register and design the web-site. I got the shock of my life some days ago when the designers told me that the name has been taken by a another person. My investigation revealed this “person” to be a site called “Domaincar” who specializes in using their computers to captures expired or pre-registered sites. Once you do a search, their system has a way of capturing that address (if it doesn’t exist) and register it. I am completely disgusted at this. I have written to them to transfer back to me the domain name, but they are yet to reply. Already i have incurred great cost on publicity for this site and i would love to know HOW DO I GET MY DOMAIN NAME/WEBSITE ADDRESS BACK? All suggestions would be appreciated, because i know i am not the only person affected by this kind of unethical practice.
My domain name, www.toristreasuresgiftbaskets.com, has accidentally expired. I would like to renew it (and don’t know how), and I am concerned about whether or not my Yahoo Small Business services (like the Shopping Cart) will return once it is renewed. I have a lot of information in there. It expired three days ago.
I can “reactivate” my domain name using that link, ktkck5, but my concern is whether or not the online shopping cart information I have created can be recovered. The fact that it asks me to select a service (either with or without a shopping cart) concerns me very much. I want to restore my domain name without losing that shopping cart information.
I had a domain name set as my name server… That domain expired. But now the other domains that were using that name server cannot be linked to the server and don’t work. So I need to know how to find what the IP address was when it was working. Is there a website that caches that stuff or something?
This is the example:
1. Company A closes down/shuts down.
2. Company A’s domain name expires and is for sale.
3. Company B wants that domain and buys it.
4. Company B then forwards that domain to their main site.
The main question: If Company A went out of business, is anything mentioned above illegal/grounds for litigation, etc.? Note, both companies sell roughly the same product.
A domain name I’m very interested in is about to expire and I would like to register it myself. The domain name is registered through Network Solutions and I’ve dealt with them in the past for registering other domain names. They’re a tad pricey but the service has been good when I’ve needed it. The contact information is privacy-locked so I can’t contact the registrant directly. Network Solutions offers their “Certified Offer Services” but I don’t know anything about it. I’m guessing it’s primary function is for when one wants to buy a domain from the current registrant.
In this case, it appears that the registrant is not going to renew. The domain technically has already expired but I believe they don’t allow it to be registered by someone else for 30 days. So what’s the best strategy for getting it?
Thanks
