Let’s say a domain expires and the owner does not renew it. How long does it take until it’s up for grabs?

Best way to get a dropping domain name?

cmatthe7 asked:

Hey everyone… I’m getting ready to start my own website, and I need some advice on obtaining the domain name.

The domain is currently in use, but expires on October 1, 2009… so I have a few days to get prepared. I’ve read about using services like Pool.com to obtain the domain name as it expires, but does anyone have any other advice on the backordering process? I really don’t want to miss my chance at getting this domain!

Has anyone had experience with snatching up dropping domain names? How successful have you been? I’m pretty techno-savvy, but I’m no professional domain-shark or anything… any guidance is most appreciated.

Charlotte H asked:

Well basically, today I got internet on my laptop by having an ethernet cable connected from main computer to my laptop via a Linksys cable modem. So, we all thought it worked until I tried to install Windows Live Messenger (I tried this on IE) and it came up with this:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

——————————————————————————–

Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft Windows can examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
click Detect Network Settings
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

so I tried on Firefox and it came up with this:

Address Not Found

download.microsoft.com could not be found. Please check the name and try again.

The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.
Did you make a mistake when typing the domain? (e.g. “ww.mozilla.org” instead of “www.mozilla.org”)

* Are you certain this domain address exists? Its registration may have expired.

* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check your network connection and DNS server settings.

* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

Most pages I can’t seem to get onto on both IE and MF. I am on my laptop now on Yahoo Answers, and this site works fine. I have googled for help and it says about turning of Firewalls etc, but I don’t have a Firewall on this laptop I don’t think because I had to do a Hraddrive reset not too long ago and everything got reset to as if it was a brand new laptop. My laptop is Windows XP. I have done everything that it says to do on the error pages, yet still nothing.

Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks.

Sparkie177@aol.com is my email if this is easier. Thanks.

CSS TEMPLATE WON’T WORK IN HTML?

Nicole S asked:

My domain: http://www.esthevision.cz/

This is the cause of my problem.
The template is supposed to look somewhat like this: PINK STRIPE
http://themebot.com/website-templates/html-templates
I created an extra copy of it called Natvrdo, since I modified the logo.

Okay, I have this in my HTML (Natvrdo being the CSS style sheet)
This is what I have in my index.html:

<<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-…

Kosmetika Pro Vás

This is PINK CSS by itself, and I have all the pictures and files uploaded in the index.

Now can someone PLEASE tell me why it won’t work? I’ve done all the steps and as you can see, the background and letters and it’s colors partially show.
ANd if it is emty (the template, can someone fill it in with headers and banners and logos and tabs and what not? I could modify or change it afterwards. I’m pretty much stuck here.
SO Please and Thank You Very Much?
Oh yeah, the tabs, the clickable links and the pictures should be or at least try to same as the pink stripe design.
SO why won’t the links I made won’t show as tabs? Someone please work (do) it for me.
The first answers:
Thanks for help, but it is just so complicated for me, could you just show me the “re=done” version, because I really am stuck on “this here is wrong, put this here and that in there”
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE REWRITE THE WHOLE THING FOR ME CORRECTLZ PLEASE?
I am sitting on the PC for two days, looking at various tutorials and still not achieving anything.
I did what Mr. TOP Contributor said and still it does not look like the Pink Stripe Layout.
Grah. I **** when my relatives ask me to make their webpages with beauty products when I barely know HTML and CSS. So, please, anyone, if you are willing to rewrite the ENTIRE THING so it IS AT LEAST COMPLETELY SAME AS THE PINK STRIDE WEBBIE, please do so. I’m going insane now.
