I want to buy a domain name of my family name, in honour of my Grandmother getting on the internet!
- the domain was deactivated earlier this month (30 day suspension period)
- the domain name is a .ca extension (Canada).
- my family name is uncommon as a family name, but a very common adjective in the english language.
- the guy who owns it presently is in the same city as I am.
- the site has been unhosted/down for at least a year, possibly longer.
What is the best way to get ownership, and if you suggest backordering it, what site(s) would you use and why?

This has happened to one of my client
You have to wait for 60 days and then go for registration
So wait for 30 more days that is when the domain name would be released.
All the best buddy
I’ve done both. Assuming you can contact the owner, I might try negotiating privately first. He might be a nice guy and give you the domain name… You never know!… Conversely he may also ask a lot of money for it.
I’ve backordered through GoDaddy before. It’s pretty cheap, but can be a crap shoot. There is no guarantee whatsoever that you will get the name. Also, if the domain name is valid for the next however many years, you will need to wait until it expires. Negotiating direct and you might be able to get it in a day or two.
Hope that helps.
