In 2005, I have registered a .com domain with my name, for 2 years. That domain expired in 2007, and as I was going to change webhosts, I never bothered doing it before the domain registration expired, and my previous webhost never bothered telling me I should have done it 1 month beforehand. Now, I have lost my domain. I was expecting it to be released again after 2 months, but it is just being used by firms which are obviously expecting me to contact them and pay a rip off to get it back. Obviously, I am just an individual, but imagine, if I had a business, and was losing business day after day. I really want to sue my previous webhost, but I live in Ireland. Can anbody help, or suggest something, or if you are a solicitor specialized in customer protection, would you contact me, please? Thanks!
Hi,
I bought an expired domain recently and was thinking about using some of the old content it had. But, the old content showed:
Copyright 1998,2003 – “Author’s Name”
I found the old site content on archive.org. Since the old owner no longer owns this site nor domain, the copyright is outdated (2003) and I bought the domain rights – does this allow me to use the old content?
Any answers that revolve around legality would be appreciated.
Thanks
Isn’t there a difference be online copyright and other copyrights?
I have a domain www.ondarize.com
Created on: 26-Jun-05
Expires on: 26-Jun-08
but i see a website ondarizeent.com out now
created: 12-Oct-2007
registration-expiration: 12-Oct-2008
is there a way i can copyright my name maybe since i’ve had it longer and get this person to stop using that name?
Okay I thought of this name “Romantique Interiors” 5 years ago,and even bought a webdomain that since expired. Well, I was doing a search on it and I found 1 company that now is using that name, and they bought my old domain I let go.
I searched the trademark office, and no one has registered this name, so if I purchase a trade mark will I be able to tell them “this is my name”?
After more than 25 years at my job, I got fired over the phone by the new owner. I knew he had a website for his other office and was going to eventually do one for the new office.
I bought 2 domains with variations of the name and when he finally sought to put up a site, found that the name (s) were taken and easily learned that i owned them.
His manager says she will wait for them to expire, but I will renew them in perpetuity, if need be.
The company name is not registered, but I wondered if he could do anything legally to me for taking the name.
I understand they were really p.o.’d when they learned this. LOL
I am not sure how this works legally. If someone were to buy a domain after it had expired and the renew period had ended and the original owner had not renewed could a competing business then legally forward traffic to their own site after buying the domain? In this case the domain is the name of the other business.
