   nope, there can not be a domain name that is the same as another existing domain. It would cause a major conflic with DNS servers and probably make both domains unreachable..

   you can find out who bought it and make them an offer to buy it from them.

   When a domain name expires (especially if it’s a .com that’s being talked about here), it doesn’t become available immediately as some tend to believe. It goes through a series of “phases” before it’s released for re-registration, if at all.

   Being able to possibly obtain the domain name depends on what phase it’s currently in. If doing a WHOIS lookup on the domain name (like iwhois.com or whatever you’re comfy with) shows its status line as “inactive” and past its expiration date, then it’s definitely expired.

   A popular practice among various domain registrars nowadays is to try to “auction” an expired domain name to an interested buyer (or to the winner of an auction if multiple parties made a reservation for it) before pulling the plug. So if the domain name in question has indeed expired, I suggest you contact its sponsoring registrar and ask what are their steps to making a “backorder” for it.

   That way, you can cut down the waiting time. Waiting for an expired domain name to be available for registration can take anywhere from 36 to even 78 days, and you still have no assurance of possibly grabbing it.
