Help My Web Site Is Being Held Hostage?

expired domain names
so s asked:

A ‘friend” offered to give me her old domain that she had parked and also build me a website, all I had to do was pay a monthly hosting fee of $26.00. A few months later she mentioned that she had “forgotten” to transfer the domain & would do in in a few weeks when hers expired, that was one year ago.

A few months after the site went live, I discovered that she had linked my site to her Multilevel Marketing sites which I DO NOT want associated with our site. Now that I have called her on the carpet, she won’t return calls or e-mails. I have limited acces to my current site & she has managed to lock me out of most of it.

I now have registered my own domain name and would like to use the content from my exisitng site on the new one while I create a completely new site. Is there a way to copy the content into a Wysiwyg editor & then upload it to my host site?

Please be kind with your answers, I have spent enough time beating myself up already.

Thank You

Just copy the HTML files if there is no database

right click, view source and save as… mypage.html

what are you still able to access? if you can upload pages to anyware on the server i can give you php code to grab / view / edit any pages on the same domain.

You might also want to contact an attorney to write her a letter reminding her of her obligations.

A verbal contract, if proved, is as binding as a written one.

In any case it should rattle her enough to give you want you want.

By the way saving the web page to your hard drive is very easy. Follow the other answer.

This is a bad situation. I am sure you will learn from it.

One problem you may not have considered is the search engines duplicate content policy. You might have trouble getting your site indexed and/or getting your search ratings.

The other problem I see is your ‘friend’ might be able to claim the content is hers, and claim you are in violation of copywrite infringement.

Good luck. The others have advised you of how to get your content. you can also use google cache for indexed pages after they have been removed from the server, if this becomes a problem.

Go to the site and copy the content and paste it into your html editor. Make sure you use the content as a guideline and rewrite or rephase most of it so that you won’t have to worry about dupliate content.

If she has overwritten the pages with her MLM information you can try to get some of your content back using the way back machine at. It might have an archived copy of the information from the domain.
