    There are ‘cooling-off’ periods established by the current registrar as they try to get the original registrant to renew the registration. These can be as long as 72-90 days depending on the registrar.

    GoDaddy.com has a domain watching service where for about $20 you can have them notify you by email when the name is available and try to grab it for you.

    The domain is most likely to be already taken.
    You cannot buy a name that is alrady taken, unless you can bribe the owner…
