From Godaddy:
   * On the 25th day following your domain registration's expiration date, domains are placed for auction with a domain industry auction service. You can manually renew your domain, subject to any applicable renewal and redemption fees.
    * On the 42nd day following your domain registration's expiration date, we cancel your domain. All services associated with the domain are removed.

Normally expiring domains are available at Godaddy's auction service around 25 days after. The minimum bid will be $10 or $12, plus a one year renewal fee. Even if you win the domain at this auction, the owner has one week to renew it for $90. This rarely happens though.

The page you see is a standard Godaddy parked page, and that just means it's still in their system - not that it's renewed. If you go to check, you can see if it has been renewed, but that's not always accurate.

I don't know where your $80 figure comes from. If it's a great name, it might get more than that at Godaddy's auction. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to pay $80 for domain I really want - that's quite cheap for a good expiring domain, and is in fact about the minimum bid at many places they are auctioned off.

The first thing you should do is search to see if the name is being offered on Godaddy auctions.

Godaddy will hold your domain name for approximately 42 days before canceling it - it gives owner chance to renew it.
